Essential Land, in partnership with its joint venture funding partners, acquired the 19-acre Sittingbourne Paper Mill site in Kent from M-real for £5.65 million.
The regeneration of this historic mill site represents a major opportunity to deliver a vibrant mixed-use destination and support the wider renewal of Sittingbourne. Essential Land’s vision is to create a place that combines high-quality homes, retail, leisure and public open space, while reconnecting the town with its industrial heritage and waterside setting.
Acting as development manager, Essential Land is leading proposals across two closely linked sites: the Mill site, located north of the railway line at the junction of Mill Way and Milton Road, and the nearby Wharf site beside Milton Creek.
A planning application was submitted in early 2011 for a mixed-use scheme comprising 150 new homes, a Morrisons superstore, leisure uses and a new waterside park. Together, the proposals aim to transform the former paper mill into an attractive place to live, visit and spend time, while helping to catalyse further regeneration across Sittingbourne.
